Project and work:
04.08. - 18.08.2021
Concordia has been working for almost 10 years with the city on youth involvement and international mobility. In 2019, we organised an international adult work camp to gather the views of young people living in Le Mans. You will be part of a group with youth volunteers coming from different countries and from the
region to contribute to the enhancement of the local heritage. Hosting a workcamp also contributes to the city’s ambition for exchanges and encounters of cultures. In this intercultural environment, you will also meet the local community and stakeholders.
Supervised by a competent team leader, you will participate in the rehabilitation of heritage. The work will consist of enhancing and delimiting the perimeter of an old church (the Church of Gourdaine) by laying wooden logs anchored in the ground. The work will be carried out in an ideal spot, at the foot of the ramparts of the old town, in the centre of Le Mans.
The accommodation will be in a collective accommodation centre, in the city of Le Mans. It is situated not far from our office, a small forest and a lake. From here, we can reach the city centre in 25 minutes by tramway. You will be in room or dormitory. The number of persons per room will be in accordance with the health protocol. Bed sheets and blankets are provided, but bring your own towel and
toiletries. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be taken in the accommodation place, in a collective restauration room.
The site is located in an urban environment. Bring raining clothes and clothes for outdoor activities, and sport shoes. Do not hesitate to bring activities from home such as photos, games, musical instruments, etc.Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC(European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for them, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Le Mans (143000 inhabitants) is located in the West of France. It is the administrative centre of the Sarthe County, in the Pays de La Loire region (50 min from Paris, and 1h30 from Nantes by train). You will have time to discover the city. Le Mans is a beautiful art and history city; it is the third one of the Pays de la Loire region when it comes to culture and tourism.
The old city centre is surrounded by Roman walls and the most recent renovation works organised to preserve the oldest parts of Le Mans have helped to enhance its local heritage. Two rivers cross the city which has been named one of France greenest cities. There we can find various parks and gardens, in addition to the two big forests bordering the city. The city of Le Mans, the main city of the Sarthe, has a particular attention to its monuments, which has earned it the label of City of Art and History. The city's heritage is linked to several
periods of history. The old town is surrounded by a Roman wall, and the renovation and rehabilitation work carried out in the Old City has enabled the local heritage to be enhanced. The Concordia workcamp, in partnership with the Heritage, Nature in the City and Youth departments, is participating in this enhancement of listed heritage.
