In the middle of Slovakia, surrounded by forests and nature, lies the fairy-tale village of Slatinka, which exists even after a hard long-term construction closure.
Its existence has been threatened for almost 60 years by the Slatinka waterworks, which threatened a 12 km valley with valuable biotopes.
Join the volunteers at the weekend volunteer camp in Slatinka and spend the weekend surrounded by nature in this fairytale village with an interesting history.
We organize the weekend volunteer camp in cooperation with The Slatinka Associatio. The weekend camp combines fun with volunteering help to the local community. The camp is a great opportunity for all those who want to "escape" from a stresfull city life, break out of the everyday stereotype and experience something new. Thanks to the locality of the village of Slatinka, you will find yourself surrounded by nature for the weekend and it will be great opportunity to relax, gain new energy and strength, and help where is help needed.
Workcamp is open to everybody. For young people, also for those who still feel young. For those who have already been on the camps. Also for those who have never heard of such camps. Feel free to join us with your friends or by yourself. At the camp you will meet a lot of people with whom you will find a common topics to speak about and thanks to the program you will become part of the group and time will fly by very quickly.

Who is the workcamp for?
- for everyone from 18 to 99 years old
- previous experience with volunteering, nor any special skills are required
What INEX and The Association Slatinka will provide you:?
- accommodation from Friday to Sunday
- food (3 times a day and small snacks)
- weekend program, which includes volunteering help in the village of Slatinka
What it will cost you:
- one weekend 6.10. - 8.10. 2023
- participation fee 10 EUR
- transportation to the camp site

Information about weekend workcamp in Slatinka
When: 6.10. 18:30 - 8.10. 2023 15:00
Where: Slatinka, okres Zvolen
Volunteering help: During Saturday (max. 6 hours) and Sunday (max. 4 hours), volunteers will help with cleaning the former pastures from raids. This is a measure to support biodiversity and the original landscape structure. The volunteering work will also include planting trees and taking care of already planted trees in the country. Individual tasks do not require any special skills.
Accommodation and food: Volunteers will be accommodated in the heated building of the former school, which currently serves as an eco-center. Volunteers will have mattresses and beds available. There is a garden shower and dry toilets. There is no access to running water in the building, drinking water will be provided by local partner. Meals will be provided for volunteers 3 times a day, including at least one hot meal. The diet will be mostly vegetarian. Volunteers, who will be divided into so-called kitchen teams, will be also helping with preparing the food.
Place of the workcamp: Slatinka is a small village near Zvolen in the central part of Slovakia. The village is surrounded by beautiful nature with many hiking trails and hiking opportunities. Volunteers can visit Zvolen, where they will find a castle, a historical center and other interesting places.
Travel information: Train or bus to Zvolen; then bus to bus stop Slatinka, rázcestie.
Meeting point: Main bus station Zvolen, around 18:30.
What to bring: sleeping back, working clothes, strong shoes, working gloves, flashlight and good mood :)

Leader of the workcamp
Peťo's first volunteer project was a youth exchange in Banská Štiavnica in 2011. Since then, volunteering has been his great passion. He participated in 3 workcamps and training for trainers abroad. In 2012, he completed training for leaders, after which he led more than 10 workcamps, and since 2014 he has been a member of the training team. He represented INEX in the international organization Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations as a member of the working group for environmental sustainability, which he later led. He mainly deals with the topics of leadership, communication, motivation and conflict resolution. He studied geography at the Comenius University and currently works for Dell as a data center price analyst.

The Slatinka Association was founded in 1993 as a reaction of the citizens to the revival of the dam construction project, which should flood the village of Slatinka and the unique valley of the 12 km meandering river Slatina with habitats of national and European importance. The mission of the Slatinka Association is activity in the Slatina river basin focused mainly on the protection of the environment and natural values, environmental education and upbringing (especially of children and young people) and increasing public participation in decision-making on projects and documents with an impact on the environment. Since 2005, they have been running an eco-advice in Zvolen, which provides advice on solving specific environmental problems in the Zvolen region and ideas for the general public to prevent the emergence of environmental problems.
