Project and work:
Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees, come to renovate the Garay Fountain, known as the Fountain of the Lion for the initiated…
This homogeneous ensemble was originally organized around an artesian well sheltered by a pavilion-type building with exceptional architecture, a fountain with permanent drinking water and a washhouse with two basins.
The work will involve cleaning and repairing the connections and joints between the slabs of the basins of the washhouse. The work will be carried out according to traditional masonry practices based on lime mortar.
Accommodation and food:
You will be accommodated in the village, where you will sleep in individual or duo tents. You will have at your disposal a room for cooking and collective life. You will share the different collective tasks and prepare meals together, in order to experience group life! With the allocated budget, you will take part in the shopping by privileging healthy and local products.
Concordia has already accompanied the municipality (www.arancou.fr) in 2005 in the renovation of its fountain-washhouse, an international volunteer workcamp that has allowed the preservation of this place. The municipality is committed to safeguarding its cultural heritage, a witness to its history. The participants will therefore take over from this first project, a stay that won the hearts of the inhabitants of Bearn.
Location and leisure:
Arancou is located in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, in the south of the New-Aquitaine region. A small Bearnais village at the crossroads of Bayonne and the Atlantic Ocean on one side, Pau on the other side, and above all leaning against the Pyrenees, the opportunities offered by the surroundings are not lacking.
The towns of Pau and Bayonne are close by, it's up to you to discover them together! Moreover, nothing prevents you from taking walks in the magnificent Pyrenees mountain range, a true natural masterpiece.
