We fight with non-violent actions to ban nuclear weapons.
With this work camp, the Peace Workshop Mutlangen e.V. supports the resistance against the last nuclear bombs in Germany. As part of the national campaign "Nuclear Weapons Free", which is supported by almost 80 peace organisations, we participate every year in the non-violent protest at the airbase Büchel in the Eifel. We invite all volunteers to join us to learn more about the peace movement and to support our activities against nuclear armament. During the work camp we will take part in the church action day, the ICAN-IPPNW week and the international week. You will learn a lot about history of nuclear disarmament, confidence building measures and non-violent concepts in activism. In addition to workshops, there will be a bicycle demonstration, storytelling cafés, concerts and hikes, as well as plenty of time for getting to know each other and personal exchange: You can expect an exciting time of working together, learning and having fun in the great outdoors. You can meet active and committed people of all ages and experience a unique atmosphere of community and peace.
The campaign: 20 nuclear bombs are still stored in the military camp at Büchel. They belong to the USA and are stationed in Germany as part of NATO's nuclear sharing programme. In case of emergency, the bombs are flown and used by German pilots on the orders of the US president. Instead of banning the storage and withdrawing the bombs, as required by international law since this year, Germany is modernising these weapons of mass destruction with billions of Euros. The campaign draws attention to the issue with the action presence "20 weeks - 20 bombs". The campaign is part of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for its commitment against nuclear weapons.
During the work camp you are invited to join our campaigns and activities for peace. There is a lot to do: design artistically posters for the actions, set up and take down information stands, accompany political performances. You can also contribute with your own ideas and actions. Participation in blockades is not compulsory, but everyone should take part in the communal tasks. We believe that campaigns for nuclear disarmament and non-violent conflict resolution are messages worth spreading through the media. We invite you to learn from best practices in peace work and help us spread these examples as peace messages on social media. Your help for translation into different languages is welcome. Participants will learn interesting things about the history of the globally networked peace movement and its efforts for disarmament and reconciliation. We will exchange experiences about different forms of action for peace. As there will be contact with German native speakers, the work camp is a good opportunity to improve your German language skills. You are welcome to stay longer at the peace camp in Büchel and participate in the programme of the international week.
