“La Maison du colonel” (the colonel’s house) is a project to renovate a small house located in the Elbeuf neighborhood in Amiens, in order to turn it into an associative café designed and built by the inhabitants themselves. The Elbeuf neighborhood is a popular and landlocked neighborhood with social and economic disparities. Through the implementation of this project, you will contribute to the cultural animation of the district, which is a vector of social link, with and for its inhabitants. There will be diverse activities that will aim to achieve a fresco in earthen plaster on the house. It will be for you the opportunity to discover these techniques.
In addition, you will be able to create some link with the inhabitants and between them by doing small works and workshops to make the place more attractive. You may also organise ephemeral brasseries, festive events during which you will have the occasion to present your culture to the locals (through food, dancing, singing...).
You will sleep in individual tents, at the municipal camping of Amiens (Camping du Parc des cygnes). A large tent will be dedicated to the collective daily life, with a kitchen area to cook
the meals. In the camping you will find sanitary facilities with individual cabins (toilets, showers, sinks). You will share the various collective tasks and prepare meals together. To move around, you will have bicycles at your disposal and will be able to use the bus
networks in the city.Partner:
This is the second year that we work with the Colonel's House. A European project was organized in 2018 and allowed a group to participate in the insulation of the house with concrete of hemp. The group learnt environmentally friendly techniques, but also participated in the life of the neighborhood by setting up cultural workshops and ephemeral brasseries.

Amiens, which was elected European Youth Capital in 2020, is a city of about 130 000 inhabitants, located in the North of France. The city is one hour away from the Picardy coast but also one hour away by train from Paris. You will have the opportunity to explore the
splendid regional park of the Baie de Somme on the coast, that is famous for its rich fauna and flora. Amiens is also an attractive place with lots of historical heritage sites: the largest cathedral in France; the beautiful district of Saint-Leu ; the Hortillonnages and its floating gardens which gave the city its nickname of “small Venice of North”; the house of Jules Verne the famous French writer… and so much more to discover! The accommodation is located next to the river called “la Somme”, near the towpath that
was converted into a 120 km bicycle route linking Saint-Valery-sur Somme to Péronne via Amiens. The campsite is in front of a large park which offers during the summer various free sports activities (canoeing, climbing, archery...).
Please bring clothes and shoes for work. There may be aquatic activities, so remember to bring a swimsuit. For accommodation in tents, bring your sleeping bag and a camping mat. Tents are provided.
