We are the Farmers Association of the Cristuru Secuiesc
Area and we would like to introduce ourselves and our
new project, called AGRO Volunteering.
It is not really about farming, cleaning animals or
working in the fields, even if you could try yourselves out
in these areas too, its more about you and us are working
together, growing together and help to grow a happy
community, happy region.
The Farmers Association of the Cristuru Secuiesc Area
(AACS) was founded in spring 2013 with the aim to be a
niche organization to assist local farmers in the area,
encouraging and making the youth aware that it is
beneficial to deal with agriculture. In addition, the
organisation seeks to bring the new modern facilities and
opportunities to the farmers in the best and shortest
possible ways. The association was brought to life in
Cristuru Secuiesc by three youth after it was discovered
that the younger generation is increasingly starting to
move away from agricultural work, and they do not see a
future in it. The absence of many youth and somewhat
lower yields in crops, outdated system, due to local hosts
did not develop a vision for sustainable development.
We are seeking for volunteers for three different kind of activities, such as:
1. Discovering Herbalism: In our region and actually whole Romania is filled with
amazing and healthy fields. This means, not only the fresh air is good for you, but even
the step what you take in nature. Basically you can find almost all the medicine in nature,
of course the natural medicines. In this case we would like to have a volunteer, who can
join and see some local people, whom are working with herbs, natural plants and wild
flower. The volunteer can help in their everyday life, to go out and pick, dry and storage,
but this is just an example. There are millions of ways to use herbs that the volunteer can
experience. He or she would also help to share the practices and help to promote the
natural treasures in national and even in international levels. They can also make
workshops, organize tea night or any kind of creative activity for the interested audience.
3. Non-formal education in local kindergartens and pre-schools. Volunteers
organize different activities for children in the educational institutions of the town,
they use creative and interactive ways of teaching, so kids can explore a new
cultural world and learn about the benefits of non-formal education.
These activities in kindergartens should be based on the social needs of the groups.
The main goal for the kids is to enjoy the learning process, and for the volunteers
is to develop their teaching methods and their social awareness.
2. Promoting rural tourism opportunities - The volunteer will work on how to make
more popular the area from touristic point of view. He/she will design brochures, will
create promotional films, postcards will make a website where will upload these
materials, will describe traveling routes in the zone. He/she will make a folder on the
website for the neighboring localities where all the touristic attractions will be described
and presented through images and films. The volunteer will also have the opportunity
to accompany touristic groups, to offer them guidance, etc.
The volunteers will be accommodated in a fully renovated
house, which will be adequately equipped and furnished
(washing machine, fridge, etc.). It has 4 rooms, a kitchen,
living room and also a bathroom. The house is situated close
to the office. The working place will be also adequately
equipped with copy machine/printer/scanner, office supplies.
We also provide to the volunteer the specific materials needed
for some of their activities (for example crafts base materials).
For the volunteers going to villages to fulfill their activity we
will ensure the transport.
Now you know everything about, what the volunteer needs to do, where they need to do it
and of course how. Now let’s see who can be part of our team.
First of all if you would like to come as an ESC volunteer, you need to be aged between 18-
30, and interested in one of the activities proposed by this project.
We do not search and do not require volunteers having special qualifications or experiences,
but who are open to get acquainted with new cultures and communities, willing to get
familiar with the activity and tasks of the project. The youngsters are not required to speak
the language of the hosting country or English, but it is advised to be motivated to learn
language(s). It is also a recommendation or the volunteer to be open minded, sociable,
capable to adapt to a new environment, to be creative and with initiative
