Sarah: Chapter of October

Ahojte!

October started with a new bookbinding workshop at INEX. It was a really nice evening, and I was happy to share some different techniques. Mima, Tereza, and Natalia joined all of my workshops at INEX, I think I have a little fan club now! But I have to say, out of 12 people who registered, only 5 came. Well… people. I was a bit disappointed about that.

Then I went on a trip to the High Tatras with a friend, and I must admit that those mountains are truly beautiful. We hiked from Štrbské Pleso to Kôprovský štít, which is 2,367 meters high. The view at the top was incredible, even though the hike was hard and quite technical. I realized I need to train more to get better: so, Tatras, I’ll come back!

At the office, we also started preparing materials for the upcoming Christmas activities. It felt a bit strange to think about Christmas so early, but since it’s all about crafting, it still felt nice. I also worked on my Youthpass and tried to sum up everything I’ve learned and experienced this year.

Lately, I’ve started to think more about my future, and I admit it makes me a bit stressed. But I try my best to manage it and enjoy my last months here.

The tea meeting of the month was a quiz that we organized together with Pedro, and it was really fun! Pedro was presenting the questions and explaining the answers, while I was counting the points team by team. That day was also Erasmus Day, so we added some special questions about that topic. Brano and his son won the competition, they were really good!

But then Pedro got sick with Covid, I tried not to catch it… and luckily, it worked!

Later in the month, we had a weekend workcamp in Slatinka, it was such an amazing time in nature! We planted trees, picked up plastic flowers from the cemetery, dug holes, and cut wood. I really enjoyed being outside, off the grid, and reconnecting with what’s essential in life: staying warm, doing meaningful work, eating good food, and being with nice people. I also had fun playing card games with another volunteer, Oleg. And Maria was a great leader!

When it comes to environmental work, I keep going to BROZ, where I really enjoy spending time on the farm: helping with the sheep and goats or cutting branches.
I also went regularly to Slovak class this month, we’re almost finishing level A1 now, and soon we’ll have our first test!

We ended the month with a Halloween event at Integra. It was an interesting morning, trying to bring some joy and fun to their clients. Painting ghosts, pumpkins, bats, and cats with them was my favorite activity, and of course, the disco time too!

Take care and see you in November,

Sarah

Thank you for the support
