15.11. - 28.11.2020
This project will have two parts – the first one in Marburg; the second one in Berlin.
Project: Host organization is the municipality of Marburg.
Work: Participants will be doing various manual works to prepare the area (youth-holiday-camp for (or after) youth leisure activities of the municipality. It means for example clearing the place, gardening, painting, building up/taking down tents. Time of work will be 4-5 hours on four days per week, excluding Saturday and Sunday.
Accommodation: Participants will live in a house with shared rooms, kitchen, bathroom, shower. Cooking, cleaning, shopping etc. will be done by the group itself.
Location: Marburg is a historical and picturesque old university town, 100 km north of Frankfurt/Main. It has 82.000 inhabitants, including 25.000 students. The camp is located on a wooded hill named "Stadtwald", in a youth-holiday-camp 5 km far from the city centre. A good bus-connection allows to go to downtown.
Terminal: Train-station Marburg-Lahn; next airport Frankfurt/Main or Frankfurt-Hahn.
Group will travel to Berlin on 24th; host will pay the travel-costs.
Project: Host will be the “Traegerkonferenz der Internationalen Jugendgemeinschafts- und Jugendsozialdienste” is the association of non-profit workcamp organizations in Germany. It brings together around 60 individual organizations.
2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the international voluntary movement. In 1920, the first international workcamp took place in France where volunteers of different nations that fought each other met to rebuild not only a village, but to also restore international friendship. This year we want to celebrate this important moment with a conference in Berlin taking place 25th-28th of November. It is central to also give youngsters the possibility to help organizing the conference, taking part in Workshops and meeting interesting people.
Accommodation: Participants will stay in the Youth Hostel in the center of Berlin where the conference take place until 28th of November: https://www.jugendherbergeberlinostkreuz.de/
Location: Berlin is the capital of Germany. The youth hostel, where the conference take place, is centrally located and the ideal starting point for all who want to get to know the pulsating life of Berlin. Free time activities will be decided in accordance with the groups wishes. If you have it you can bring an International Student card (ISIC) to get reductions on local transport, museums, etc.
For this project it is necessary to have very good English skills.
Volunteers better book the return-ticket from Berlin, not from Marburg. In case this won’t be possible or too expensive, we help arranging (and pay) transfer back to Frankfurt.
We ask the volunteers to make sure that their travel is compatible with the most recent recommendations of health authorities with regards to the spread of the Corona virus. In case you are travelling from or recently travelled through a higher risk area, please check the health recommendations of the country where the project takes place, as restrictions may apply (e.g. ban, quarantine, isolation). We will take the necessary health precautions for our projects, but please contact your sending organization to get more information in case you have any concerns.
