ENGLISH: Want to get away from it all, to see breathtaking landscapes, to stay in the great outdoors, to meet people? The village of Pailherols, a nature resort, is made for you! It is located at an altitude of about 1000m in the Cantal mountains, in the centre of France. A hundred inhabitants live there yearly, but many travelers come enjoy the charms of the region, the gastronomy and the sense of hospitality of the inhabitants during the summer. The village combines tradition/folklore and attractiveness/modernity. Paiherols proves its friendliness and dynamism thanks to its inhabitants and the association Les Flocons Verts which offers entertainment, leisure and sports activities during summer and winter.
The village will host a volunteer workcamp for the first time this summer with our association, but the inhabitants are well aware of the principle: last year, during the first lockdown, they set up a participatory local workcamp. The inhabitants of Paiherols rehabilitated an old hiking trail leading to the old village's mill. They have already done 1/3 of the work. This summer, they called on us/you to keep up the good work!
EN: The village welcomes for the first time a workcamp and is waiting for you! The goal: renovate a hiking trail surrounded by dry stone walls on each side, very typical of the region. The tiral was once used by the villagers, on foot and with donkeys, to get to the watermill and the river. It fell into oblivion for a few years, the vegetation took over again, parts of the wall collapsed. Today, residents want to revive, no longer to grind wheat, but for the pleasure of walking in a lovely space!
Concretely, to re-open this path, you will need to: - clear the remaining vegetation, remove the annoying roots,
- rebuild the parts of the damaged walls: by sorting the stones and repositioning them like the famous Tetris puzzle games! You will work in groups, generally in the mornings and will do tours and activities the rest of the time. "Generally" because you will work out with the facilitating team the most optimal organization to carry out the restoration mission entrusted to you while enjoying the surroundings, the inhabitants and the good atmosphere within your intercultural group!
ENG: Accommodation is in tents provided by the association (1 person per tent) on a grassy, shaded communal area called the "Foirail". We will pitch individual tents there, and two large tents for cooking and living in the community (meals/entertainment).
For sanitary facilities: dry toilets, solar showers and/or worksite sanitary facilities will be set on the camping site. Changing room-type showers will also be installed in a room 200m from the campsite. This room also includes a locked space where you can store your belongings. Don't forget your camping gear (groundsheet, sleeping bag, etc.)! The town hall will provide a minibus for travels.
You will be actor/actress of your stay, and will participate to daily tasks (shopping, cooking, tidying up, cleaning etc...). Camp leaders will help to organize the rotation and ensure the smooth running. The facilitating team is made of 4 qualified leaders: a director, 2 camp leaders and a technical facilitator.
A rotation will be organised by the camp leaders to ensure the smooth running of daily life. The objective is to gain autonomy and that everyone acts individually to allow a good collective functioning!
Altogether, you will think about how to work together, feed everyone, have fun, get around, visit the region in the most environmental and human-friendly way.
Pay attention! Our national participants in France pay the regular 360€ of extra fees. International volunteers coming from our partners in other countries than France pay only 250€ of extra fees.

ENG: The village of Pailherols is located in the Cantal department, near the Aveyron, in the Auvergne region. The small rural villages are made of stone and wooden houses and offer a very rich heritage (bread ovens, burons (typical houses where cheese was made once), chapels, castles, etc.).
This mountain region is an ideal playground for hiking, cycling or canoeing, to visit and stroll through the alleys of typical villages, according to the proposals made by the facilitating team. Your campleaders will prepare games and activities for you but will also encourage you to propose and build your own animations according to your desires. Be creative!
ENG : Wifi access is possible but not on the accommodation site (hostel 100m away), the telephone network is very weak (complicated in summer).
Please note, due to the altitude (1000m) there can be significant temperature differences between day and night. You will need warm clothes and a good sleeping bag. In case of bad weather, we will be able to use a cottage.
Globally on our teenager workcamps, we chose to book half of the spots for french volunteers. The aim is to allow a maximum of young people to access intercultural learning, to promote volunteer's commitment as a first step and then experience an international workcamp abroad.
reduced to 250€ for international volunteers.
